The NutriBullet Blender Review: When Smart Technology Meets Nutrition

It seems like every time I turn around I see another ad or infomercial for the Nutribullet blender. Forbes even chose it as the best personal blender of the year.

Nutrition-extracting personal bullet blenders have become extremely popular. And the best thing about them is that they allow you to add a lot more fruit and vegetables to your diet.

But are they worth all of the hype? And do they really work?

I’m a big fan of smoothies. I’ve spent a small fortune buying them several times a week for lunch at my local smoothie shop. Two years ago I broke down and bought an expensive fancy-dancy juicer so that I could make my healthy drinks at home.

But my juicer is big and bulky and a pain in the neck to drag out of the cabinet. And don’t even get me started on the mess. As you can imagine, I hardly ever use it. So now I’m on a mission. I’m looking for a way to make smoothies at home that is quick and convenient and won’t cost me an arm and a leg.

What Does the NutriBullet Blender Do?

NutriBullet, sometimes called Nutri Bullet, was the first company to coin the term “nutrient extractor.” NutriBullet says that their bullet blenders break down the cell walls of high-fiber plant ingredients. This releases the vitamins and minerals in the food. The NutriBullet blender pulverizes fiber, seeds, pulp, and skins into a smooth drinkable texture, making food more easily digestible and more easily absorbed.

But there is some controversy on whether or not the NutriBullet blender and other bullet blenders can give you more nutrients than just eating the fruits and vegetables.

Bruce German, a food chemistry professor at the University of California, explains that nutrient extraction blenders can make some nutrients more available. But they can also cause other nutrients to be less available. “It has to be tested ingredient by ingredient,” he said. “A lot of the science that either substantiates or refutes this just hasn’t been done.”

NutriBullet Blender or Juicer? Which Is Better?

At first glance, a juicer and a NutriBullet blender may seem the same. But their difference lies in their output. With a traditional juicer, you only get the juice out of the produce you use. They extract out the insoluble fibrous pulp, leaving just the liquid. So you miss out on some of the nutrients from your fruits and vegetables. A NutriBullet blender, on the other hand, doesn’t extract anything out. Instead, it pulverizes the entirety of whatever you put into it.

4 Healthy and Delicious Recipes You Can Make With a NutriBullet Blender

The best thing about using a personal bullet blender like NutriBullet is that it’s an easy way to add fruit and vegetables to your diet. Not a huge fan of vegetables? You can make smoothies so delicious that you can’t tell any veggies are even in there. There are countless healthy recipes that you can make in a NutriBullet blender. You just need to find some that suit your taste. These are four of our favorites to get you started.

Our Review Process

This analysis is an independent review of 4 different NutriBullet blenders. For comparison, we also looked at three other popular bullet blenders. We have no business or financial ties with any of these companies. During the review process, we researched professional and consumer reviews. We also compared the features of each blender.

Pros and Cons for the NutriBullet Blender

Here’s what we loved and didn’t love about the NutriBullet blender.

The pros

  • The NutriBullet blender breaks food down into its most nutritious state
  • It doesn’t take up much counter space
  • The cups and lids are BPA-free and dishwasher safe
  • The NutriBullet blender is extremely versatile
  • Affordability
  • They are very easy to use
  • They clean up easily

The cons

  • They tend to leak if you don’t tighten down all of the parts properly
  • NutriBullet only offers a one-year warranty
  • Customers complain that parts break too soon

The NutriBullet Blenders

In this review we looked at four Nutribullet blenders: the original NutriBullet blender, the NutriBullet Pro, the NutriBullet Balance, and the NutriBullet Rx. Each has their own unique features that make separate them from the others.

The NutriBullet Pro

The NutriBullet Pro is a step up from the original and features a 900-watt motor. And it has the same stainless steel blades for the cyclonic action. With this NutriBullet blender, you can get up to seven servings of fruit and vegetables per smoothie. It has a capacity of up to 32 ounces.

The NutriBullet Pro comes with the power base, two “colossal” cups, and an emulsifying blade. It also comes with two flip-top lids and four lip rings. And it comes with a one-year manufacturer’s warranty.

This NutriBullet blender costs anywhere from $60 to $100. And like the original, it gets very high ratings. Most customer complaints about this blender are that the parts break too quickly which can cause it to leak.

The NutriBullet Balance

The NutriBullet Balance is another step up, and it includes smart technology. It features an even more powerful motor at 1,200 watts.

The best thing about this NutriBullet blender is that it uses Bluetooth technology to connect to your smart device, allowing you to calculate the exact nutritional value of your smoothie in real-time as you add each ingredient. You can get up to seven servings of fruit and vegetables per smoothie with this blender. And it has a capacity of up to 32 ounces.

The balance comes with a power base with a smart nutrition sensor, two “colossal” cups, and an extractor blade. It also comes with two flip-top to-go lids and two lip rings. And like the other NutriBullet blenders, it comes with a one-year warranty.

Most buyers love this NutriBullet blender. But some people complained that the app still needs improvement.

The NutriBullet Rx

The NutriBullet Rx is the mac-daddy of all of the NutriBullets. It is the most technologically advanced, and it features a crazy powerful 1,700-watt motor. And it has a heating cycle for hot soups. It’s also programmable and has a hands-free auto start/stop function.

With this NutriBullet blender, you can get a whopping 12 servings of fruit and vegetables per smoothie. It’s also more substantial than the other NutriBullets, with a capacity of up to 45 ounces.

The Rx comes with the power base, an extractor blade, and a pitcher with a two-piece lid. It also comes with a short cup, an oversized cup, a stay-fresh lid, and a lip ring. It also comes with a one-year warranty.

The NutriBullet Rx costs $100 to $260, depending on where you buy it, and it gets outstanding reviews. One of the complaints about it is that it leaks if you don’t tightly screw all of the parts down (but, really, whose fault is that?). Another complaint is that replacement parts and accessories are expensive.

How the NutriBullet Blender Stacks up to the Competition

For some comparison, we also looked at three other popular bullet blenders. Each of these is an excellent product in their own right so don’t ignore them just because they’re not made by Nutribullet.

Nutri Ninja BL455 professional 1000 watts personal blender

This Ninja blender has a powerful 1,000-watt motor. But it doesn’t come with any of the smart technology that the NutriBullet Balance and Rx have. It has a 24-ounce capacity, and it comes with the motor base, three cups, and pro extractor blades. It also comes with two sip and seal lids and a one-year manufacturer’s warranty. The accessories are BPA-free and dishwasher safe.

The Ninja blender costs $60 to $80, and it gets outstanding reviews. The Ninja is similar in price and wattage to the NutriBullet Pro. But in side-by-side comparisons, most people preferred the NutriBullet because it does a better job with substantial ingredients and produce that is still whole, with stems and skin intact.

Chulux Smoothie Bullet Blender Maker

The Chulux bullet blender is another moderately priced but powerful machine. It features a 1,000-watt motor, and it has a 35-ounce capacity. One unique thing about this blender is that it has overheating protection. If the motor is improperly used or overheats it shuts itself off to prevent damage to the machine.

Once it cools off, it can be activated again. Another nice thing about it is that you can use it as a grinder as well as a blender. So it can make a smoothie as well as grind your coffee beans. The Chulux blender comes with a power base, a six-leaf extractor blade, and a two-leaf grinding blade. It also comes with a large jar, a small container, two seal lids, and one travel lid. And like the NutriBullet blenders, it comes with a one-year warranty.

Vitamix S30 Personal Blender

The Vitamix S30 is considerably more expensive than any of the NutriBullet blenders. It has a 40-ounce capacity, but with a 790-watt motor, it’s not as powerful. The Vitamix does, however, have variable speed control and a pulse feature. It comes with the power base, a travel cup with a lid, and a larger pitcher with a lid. It also comes with a low-profile tamper and a stainless steel blade base.

And it has a 40-ounce capacity. One great thing about this blender is that it also comes with a 5-year full warranty and a 30-day guarantee. And unlike the NutriBullets, which they make in China, the Vitamix is made in the United States.

The Vitamix S30 is an excellent blender, but it will cost you a pretty penny. But like the other bullet blenders on our list, it gets very high customer ratings. When compared with the NutriBullet Rx, the Vitamix tends to win because of superior design and quality. But it costs twice as much.

It All Comes Down to This

Of the seven blenders that we reviewed, our favorite was the NutriBullet Pro because it gives you the best bang for your buck. And for the vast majority of people, it will do the job. But if you’re looking for the best of the best and price isn’t a concern, then you can’t go wrong with the Vitamix S30. We still prefer the NutriBullet Rx however because it’s half the price of the Vitamix and it has tons of cool technology. The NutriBullet blenders are very popular and with good reason. So are they worth all of the hype? I would say so, yes.

We’d love to hear from you. Tell us in the comments about your favorite bullet blender and share your favorite recipe.

Protein Shakes for Weight Loss: How Do They Work?

protein shake for weightloss

If you want to lose weight, there are many different approaches you can take. A popular option is using protein shakes for weight loss. Harnessing the power of protein could just be what works for you, but before you jump into this type of diet plan, you should learn more about protein and how this type of shake works as part of a weight loss program.

Do keep in mind that you should never start a diet without first talking to a medical professional. The information here is for education only. While it makes a good starting point, you should talk to your doctor before you begin using protein shakes for weight loss to get further important information.

How Does Protein Help With Weight Loss?

Protein is essential for your body. It also supports your body in different ways. The right amount of protein can assist you with weight management. Healthline explains that protein helps to boost your metabolism because when you consume it, it takes more energy to digest. The result is your body burns more calories just to process the protein.

Protein also helps to prevent muscle loss. Because muscle burns more calories than fat, having adequate muscle means you burn more calories each day naturally. It makes you feel full longer and increases your appetite-reducing hormones, which means you don’t get hungry as often and when you eat, you will likely eat less.

So, by using protein shakes for weight loss, you help ensure you get enough protein to enable you to lose fat and build muscle. However, you should keep in mind that weight loss still always comes down to burning more calories than you consume. So, what is in your protein shake could negate its benefits.

What Is a Protein Shake?

Protein shakes can be very simple, such as powder mixed with water, or they can be more complex, such as powder mixed with fruit, vegetables, and other ingredients. Some shakes are not quite as healthy as others because they include a lot of sugar, which increases the calorie content. Some may include milk or yogurt, which increases calorie and fat content.

You can buy pre-made protein shakes. They are convenient because you just open and drink without the need to mix the ingredients yourself. However, you have little control over what is in them. Often pre-made shakes contain a lot of sugar or other added ingredients that make them less helpful for use as protein shakes for weight loss.

Medical News Today notes that protein shakes for weight loss that you make yourself or buy pre-made can also include vitamins and minerals, which is beneficial if you find it difficult to get these nutrients through what you eat. Protein is the main nutrient, but many protein powders also include essential amino acids or fats. So, you may get additional benefits from a protein shake diet.

How to Use Protein Shakes for Weight Loss

Very Well Fit explains the normal diet plan using protein shakes for weight loss is involves replacing two meals a day with shakes, ensuring your diet is low in fat and calories. However, you do need to pay attention to your total protein intake. Too much protein can lead to weight gain.

You should aim for 20 grams of protein per shake. Keep your total protein consumption to 25 to 35 percent of your total daily calories. Also, never use shakes as the only way you get protein. Make sure to include it in your daily meal as well. Stick to low-fat protein sources.

The Mayo Clinic reminds you that you should not just add protein shakes to your regular diet and continue eating the same. This will increase your overall calorie intake and lead to weight gain because the shakes include calories that add to your overall calorie intake. Protein shakes for weight loss work best when they replace a whole meal. However, never replace all your meals with a shake. Eat at least one regular meal per day.

Most people will not have any side effects from drinking protein shakes for weight loss. However, if you have a sensitivity to lactose, you could experience diarrhea, cramps and bloating. This is avoidable by choosing protein powders that do not contain whey or casein. The only other side effect noted is weight gain. If you do not watch the calorie content of your shake and meal each day, you could consume too much protein or too many calories, leading to weight gain instead of loss.

What Protein Powder Is Best?

You can use many different protein powders in your protein shakes for weight loss. You may choose a powder based on what it is made from or what it contains. If you have allergies or dietary preferences, you also need to keep that in mind.

If you cannot have lactose or if you are vegan, there are many different non-dairy options. These are not as preferable when it comes to taste for many people, though. You may need to add more ingredients to get the taste where you like it. Keep in mind that adding more ingredients to your protein shakes for weight loss could add more calories.

The most popular and what studies show as the best type is whey. Whey comes from milk. Eating Well explains it helps with weight loss the most if you spread consumption throughout the day. It also has the best impact because it is the most effective at building muscle, which leads to more fat loss. Aaptiv also notes whey dissolves easily, making it very appetizing. It also digests quickly to provide immediate fullness.

Casein is another dairy-based option. It is very thick, so it’s often mixed with other types of protein rather than being available on its own. Casein does produce a very creamy shake, which many people prefer. Plus, it absorbs slowly to keep you feeling fuller longer.

Soy is probably the most popular alternative option. You need to use only soy isolate, which is purified soy that will not cause hormonal effects. One issue with this is that soy protein powders do not dissolve as well as the dairy-based ones. It may need more blending to ensure you mix it well enough.

Hemp protein powder is a plant-based protein alternative. It comes from the cannabis plant, but does not contain any drugs and will not produce drug-like effects. However, it is high in fat, so be careful with this when drinking protein shakes for weight loss. It also does not provide as much protein as other options, but it is high in omega 3 and omega 6 fatty oils, which provide health benefits.

Pea protein is another option for a plant-based protein. It is a complete protein just like protein from animal sources. Many people think it has an odd taste when made into protein shakes for weight loss.

Rice protein powder is generally only found in blends. It adds a nice amount of protein to protein shakes for weight loss, but some people find the taste odd.

Egg white

Finally, Nutrition Express states egg white protein is a good non-dairy option. It isn’t vegan, but it is probably the next best option to whey protein powder for those who need a lactose-free option. It tastes good, has a reasonable price, and is low in fat and carbs.

Pros and cons

You need to be sure that you will be okay with eating just once a day. Some people do not have a problem with this, but others may not feel satisfied with just one meal. You also need to think about how you will make your shakes each day. Will you have the time to do it? If you buy pre-made shakes, then you have to consider the cost. These can get expensive to buy since you will need two every day. In addition, you still need to buy food for your one meal per day.

On the plus side, when you use protein shakes for weight loss, you do not have to count calories or create a complex diet meal plan. You only have one meal each day to worry about planning. In addition, it is very easy to just have a shake for a meal, especially when you make them ahead of time or use pre-made shakes.

Beyond making sure that the protein shakes for weight loss diet plan works for you, there are additional things you want to think about. Keep in mind that some protein powders are for weight gain specifically. You should always read the label. Make sure the calorie count is not too high. Also, check for added sugar and fat. Be especially careful with pre-made shakes, which could contain a lot of hidden calories and fat.

When making your own shakes, make sure to choose your ingredients carefully. Remember whatever you add to your shake will also add calories and maybe fat. Don’t add in sugar or sweeteners if you can help it. Use natural sweeteners, such as fruit and honey when needed.

When choosing a protein powder, Daily Burn suggests checking up on the manufacturer. Double-check that the company has a good reputation and certification. This helps to ensure you get a high-quality protein powder that does not contain contaminants.

Making it work for you

Before you start your protein shakes for weight loss diet, get prepared. Make sure you have enough stuff to make your shakes for the whole week. You will need 14 shakes for seven days. Also, plan out your healthy meal. Make sure you include plenty of vegetables and try to keep it low in fat and carbs to maximize your results.

You should also allow yourself snacks, but keep them high protein and low fat. They should be small and filling. Also, don’t drink your calories. Besides the protein shakes, all your other beverages need to be zero calories and zero fat. Drink mainly water. You can also have plain coffee and tea.

In the beginning, you may want to count calories. You can get a quick calorie count for your shakes and then calculate the calories in your snacks and daily meal. Eat fewer calories than you burn. You can find many calculators online that can tell you your basic calories burned each day based on your height, weight, age, and gender.

Your Takeaways

When it comes to using protein shakes for weight loss, there are a few key points to remember. First, understand how protein can aid in your weight loss, but also understand that you cannot just drink protein shakes. You should only replace two meals each day with a shake. Always eat at least one well-balanced meal.

You also want to make sure that you choose the right protein powder to minimize side effects. Keep in mind the most common protein powder, whey, is dairy-based, so choose an alternative option, such as egg white protein, if you have lactose intolerance issues. Always read the label to ensure you know what is in the powder.

Finally, know this information is only to educate yourself about protein shakes. You should talk with your doctor before embarking on any type of diet. Discuss if protein shakes for weight loss would make a good option for you based on your health situation.

Margaritaville Blender Line Up: For Over-the-Top Entertaining

Margaritaville key west frozen concoction maker

When you’re planning to throw amazing parties, you want the best appliances and products to turn out memorable food and drinks. The Margaritaville blender is more than just a blender; it’s a “frozen concoction” machine that delivers margaritas and daiquiris that will elevate your entertaining style.

Kudos to Jimmy Buffet for turning a hit song into a billion-dollar brand. Although we prefer “Cheeseburgers in Paradise,” because it’s more upbeat, there’s no missing "Margaritaville’s" impact on American culture. You’ll find hotels and resorts, restaurants, casinos, and clubs, even specialty foods with the Margaritaville name on them.

All these products – and even the Internet radio station – work to transport you to the tropics. And who couldn’t use a little Key West in the middle of a stressful week or a gloomy February?

Comparison Table

What’s a Margaritaville Blender?

The Jarden Corporation, once known as the historic manufacturer of Ball canning jars and lids, teamed up with the Margaritaville brand to produce a really elegant piece of bar equipment. We have to be frank — some of the Margaritaville home products are pretty kitschy looking. Plastered with palm trees and parrots, they can be a bit too tiki for the serious home bartender. And for those who do live the tropical beach lifestyle on the water, the whole Margaritaville vibe can seem a bit cartoonish, even condescending.

Luckily, designers for Jarden stepped in and insisted on creating a truly professional-looking frozen drink machine that anyone would be proud to own. While it does have more of a Miami Beach Art Deco feel a Key West style, it’s an attractive looking machine.

What’s Different About the Margaritaville Blender?

Margarita on top of a table

Image via Pexels

To create a restaurant-quality frozen drink, product designers incorporated an ice shaver. This gives the resulting cocktails the slushy consistency people expect from a bar or restaurant. Typical home blenders crush ice into chunks, and somewhat inconsistently too. The Margaritaville blender uses an ice shaver instead.

Along with the improved consistency, the Margaritaville blender has pre-programmed drink settings, so you don’t have to fuss over it to get that improved consistency. Basically, pour in the ingredients, push a couple buttons, and behold: great frozen cocktails.

Margaritaville Blender Models

While all of them are excellent, high-powered, and attractive machines, the Margaritaville blender comes in several different models. Each has its own capacity and drink programming settings.

Margaritaville DM0700-000-000 Frozen Concoction Maker, 1, White
  • The Bahamas Frozen Concoction Maker with 36-ounce blending jar is an easy-to-use margarita machine that lets you easily...
  • Machine features the No-Brainer mixing tool with measurements for making pina coladas, daiquiris, and margaritas....
  • Automatic shave 'n blend cycle mixes the right proportion of ice with ingredients; manual blend only/shave only cycles

The simplest version they make, this machine has one pre-programmed drink – a margarita, naturally -- and makes a 36-ounce pitcher (about 3) during its automatic cycle. You can also override the program and choose your own drink consistency for other frozen drinks. It features 400 watts of power and an ice hopper large enough to make one pitcher of drinks.

The unit measures 14 by 9 by 18 inches, so it requires some heads space on your counter. You'll also get a 1-year manufacturer’s warranty.

Amazon customers rate the Bahamas Margaritaville blender 4.6 out of 5 stars. Target customers gave it 4.9 out of 5, as did Best Buy customers. You’ll find it priced online between $ to $ depending on the retailer. Several, including Best Buy and the Margaritaville Cargo website, offer financing.

Margaritaville Key West Frozen Concoction Maker with Easy Pour Jar and...

  • Includes 4 pre-programmed drink settings, plus automatic shave 'n blend cycle and manual blend only/shave only cycles

The Key West Margaritaville blender is a popular model because its ice hopper has a much larger capacity than the Bahamas model. With 450 watts of power, it stores up to three pitcher’s worth of ice for frozen drinks and has three program settings for drinks.

The unit measures 9 by 14 by 19 inches, so like the other models, it will need some headroom in the kitchen or on the bar. Like other Margaritaville blenders, it comes with a 1-year limited warranty.

Amazon customers rate this model a 4.4 out of 5 stars. Target buyers gave it 4.9 out of 5 stars, and Walmart shoppers gave it 4.7 out of 5

There are currently three versions of the Key West Margaritaville blender on the market, and the price you pay will vary accordingly. The original model may be hard to find at this point, although used versions may pop up occasionally. The new model features two additional drink programs and an easy-pour spout. You'll find it readily online priced between $ to $$.

Margaritaville Jimmy Buffet Signature Edition Frozen Concoction Maker,...
  • Restaurant quality frozen drinks without the guesswork
  • Frozen concoction maker shaves ice and blends up to 36 ounces
  • Drink selector for 1,2, or 3 drinks (12 oz. each)

You'll also see 10-year anniversary edition that features new, teal accent colors, a Jimmy Buffet signature graphic, and additional drink programs. Ratings for the anniversary editions are slightly higher than the original model, too. Amazon buyers give it 4.5 out of 5, Target shoppers rated it 4.9 out of 5, and Walmart shoppers gave it 4.8 out 5. Accordingly, the price on this model is higher, too, running from $$ to $$, depending on where you shop.

Each of the three blending stations has separate controls, so you can mix up a pitcher of margaritas, a pitcher of pina coladas, and a pitcher of mojitos. Your guests will be impressed as the machine automatically rotates while making three different pitchers of frozen drinks in a row. The rotating ice hopper automatically switches from one station to the next. You barely have to do a thing except for adding the ingredients and pushing the buttons.

Each station features a 24-ounce plastic blender jar, and each station offers six programmed drinks: smoothies, margaritas, coladas, daiquiris, mojitos, and mudslides. The 750 watts of power drive the multiple drink stations and ice shaver. The unit measures about 20 by 20 by 20 inches and looks great on your bar top with stainless steel and bamboo accents.

Amazon buyers rate the Tahiti Margaritaville blender 4.3 out of 5 stars, while Walmart shoppers gave it 4.5 out of 5 stars. Bed, Bath and Beyond buyers and Target shoppers gave it 4.5 out 5 too. Prices for this party machine run from $$ to $$$ online.

Margaritaville Bali Frozen Concoction Maker with Self-Dispensing Lever...
  • 60 oz. jar capacity
  • 4 pre-programmed drink settings: Margaritas, Daiquiris, Coladas & Smoothies
  • Settings can be programmed to mix either half-chamber or full-chamber batch sizes

If you have really big blowout parties, you may want to consider the Bali Margaritaville blender. Along with programs for margaritas, daiquiris, pina coladas, and smoothies, it features an ice hopper for up to 60-ounces of frozen drinks and a 60-ounce blending jar that holds up to six large servings.

Instead of a pouring blender jar, the Bali Margaritaville blender features a press-and-pour dispenser. Just put your glass under the spout and press a lever to recharge your drink. There's also a remix feature to keep your drinks perfectly blended between servings.

The professional-looking appliance has stainless steel accents and no parrots or palm trees for a discreet look that is in no way hokey or contrived. With 650 watts of power, it makes quick work of a whole extra larger pitcher of drinks without jamming. You’ll also get a 1-year limited warranty. The unit is sizeable, about 13 by 19 by 22 inches tall, and looks impressive on your bar counter. Best of all, the jar and dispenser unit are dishwasher safe.

Amazon customers only gave it 3.7 out of 5 reviews, with many complaining that their units didn’t last much more than the 1-year warranty. More concerningly, others stated that customer service was slow and inadequate. Other stated that the machine is just too loud. And others claimed that had received used machines with missing parts. This trend only appeared on machines sold through Amazon, however.

On the other hand, Walmart customers gave it 4.5 out of 5 stars. Bed, Bath and Beyond buyers gave it 4.5, as well. And Target customers gave it 4.7 of out 5. So, your experience with this particular model may vary depending on where you purchase your machine. Prices online range from $$ to $$$, depending on the retailer.

The Margaritaville Blender Against the Competition

In this comparison, we’ve discounted professional machines — by which we mean freestanding slushy makers often used by restaurants and caterers for big batches of margaritas and daiquiris. These models cost in the thousands and aren’t considered consumer units. They make gallons of frozen drinks and feature built in compressors to keep the drinks frozen.

We’ve identified only one brand that we consider similar enough to compare to the Margaritaville blender. Nostalgia Electrics, which manufactures several products specifically for margaritas, daiquiris, and other frozen tropical drinks, has several models on the market.

Nostalgia Electrics makes several frozen drink makers of varying capacity. These definitely serve as consumer units, although they do boast that the appliances shave ice instead of simply crushing it like a regular blender.

Nostalgia FBS400RETRORED Retro 40-Ounce Frozen Beverage Station
  • LARGE CAPACITY: 40-oz. capacity pitcher is great for making slush drinks, snow cones, margaritas, daiquiris and more -...
  • TWO SHAVE SETTINGS: Features two shave settings that produce either snow or slush ice texture (coarse or fine), allowing...
  • STANDARD ICE CUBES: Fill the shaving cage with regular-sized ice cubes for best results

With a 40-ounce pitcher, this cheery red unit with Art Deco styling has two settings for shaving ice for either snow or slushy texture. It measures about 10 by 9 by 13 inches high. This means it's compact enough to store away when not in use. It doesn’t really do much else than shave the ice mix it into your liquid with a plastic paddle, which customers found disappointing.

Amazon buyers rated the Nostalgia FBS400 3.3 out of 5 stars, with several complaining that you have to hold the ice texture setting down during processing. They also said the plastic paddle didn’t blend very well. Walmart shoppers were even less generous giving it 2.4 out of 5 stars. Online pricing ranges from $ to $$.

With a higher profile and more power, the Nostalgia Electrics MSB64 makes 64 ounces of margarita or other frozen drinks in just a minute. It only has 200 watts of power, which is one problem separating it from even the smallest Margaritaville blender. It measures about 8 by 8 by 17.6 inches high, and only has one speed and one ice texture.

Amazon customers gave it 3.1 out of 5 stars, with many saying it was just a good-looking but cheaply made blender. Walmart shoppers were equally unimpressed, giving it 3.5 out of 5 stars. Online pricing for this model ranges from $$ to $$

Nostalgia RSM650 32-Ounce Slush Drink Maker, Retro Red
  • Makes up to 32-ounces of your favorite slush drinks
  • Easy-flow spout dispenses consistently smooth frozen drinks
  • Tank detached from base for easy cleanup

While this model seems to hope to compete with the Margaritaville blender at a lower price point, its plastic construction isn’t quite up to snuff. It makes up to a gallon of frozen drinks. And it also features a blending cage with stainless steel blades for perfect ice consistency. The chamber is also double-walled for insulation, and it comes with a levered dispenser for self-serving. Measuring 6.9 by 14 by 22.8 inches high, it’s a more substantial machine. This is a very new product from Nostalgia. So, the few reviews we found were too mixed to form an opinion. However, you will see it online priced between $$ and $$.

Nostalgia MSB600 1-Gallon Margarator Plus Margarita & Slush Maker
  • Makes up to 1 gallon, or 32 4 ounce drinks
  • Dual wall construction keeps drinks cold for hours
  • Powerful motor quickly shaves ice to the perfect consisency

This older version of the one-gallon margarita maker doesn’t seem to have impressed customers, either. Made of lime green and white plastic, it looks cheesy and cheap, especially for the price. It also features a double-wall tank for insulation, stainless steel shaving cage, and dispenser spout. It seems the main difference between this and the newer model above is appearance. Admittedly the newer model is somewhat better looking and less expensive. The Nostalgia MSB600 is also a bit bigger, measuring 11 by 11 by 20 inches tall. For the most part, all of the Nostalgia Electrics machines seem to be way under-powered for shaving ice.

Amazon buyers only gave it 2.8 out of 5 stars, with many saying the motor burned up after just a few uses. Walmart shoppers gave it 3.8 out of 5, and Best Buy shoppers only gave it 2 out of 5 stars. You can find it only priced between $$ and $$$.

Margaritaville Blender Pros and Cons

The Margaritaville blender apparently stands pretty much head and shoulders above the admitted small field of competition. However, they also may have disadvantages to consider. Before investing in one, take the following under consideration:

  • No need for instructions: Just add drink mixer and alcohol and punch the button.
  • Most parts are dishwasher safe.
  • Ice hopper features a drain for melted ice.
  • Margaritaville includes a booklet of drink recipes.
  • You can make a wide range of drinks, including non-alcoholic smoothies and slushies for kids.

  • Making frozen drinks isn’t that complicated once you have shaved ice.
  • Doesn’t do anything except make frozen drinks, so you’ll still need a regular blender.
  • It takes up a lot of counter space unless you have a dedicated bar.
  • Many customers say they're as noisy as an aircraft.
  • None of the machines keep frozen drinks frozen, which may surprise and disappoint some consumers.

Should You Get a Margaritaville Blender?

Before purchasing, consider the advantages and disadvantages of owning a Margaritaville blender. Since their only competitor in this niche market is Nostalgia, you may want to weigh the benefit of having a well-made machine or paying a lot less money. What your decision may come down to is your budget and how often you actually make tropical frozen drinks. For a one-off graduation luau, the Nostalgia brand or your existing kitchen blender may be adequate to the purpose.

Margaritaville blenders can seem a bit spendy, depending on your budget. Consider the cost vs. the capacity of the machine. Then, purchase according to how often you entertain and how many guests you normally invite. The Bahamas model is the perfect size for the occasional round of pina coladas on a lazy Saturday. The Tahiti is an impressive machine for any party of 10 or more.

However, if you’re truly interested in taking your entertaining style to the next level, purchase a Margaritaville blender is a bit of a no-brainer. Whether you choose the Bahamas model for occasional special events or the Tahiti drink machine for your inner party animal, you really can’t go wrong if you enjoy frozen tropical drinks.

How We Reviewed the Margaritaville Blender Line

As long-time fans of frozen tropical drinks, we’ve been known to enjoy a pina colada or two while watching the sun as it sets over the Gulf of Mexico. We formed this review and our conclusions by examining the products and the manufacturer’s specifications. We separated the most useful features from the overrated design features. Most of all, construction and materials made a big impact on our review, as did the products' design and appearance.

We also consulted other publications that review home goods as well as the reviews of consumers on a wide range of consumer advocacy and product sites. We also noted trends in consumer reviews to identify product flaws and customer service issues.

Lastly, we considered product support and company engagement. Companies that provide their customers with a wealth of resources and respond swiftly to complaints usually earn our vote of confidence. That said, Margaritaville provides a wealth of helpful information for its customers. Their blog is chock full of drink recipes, tropical food recipes, and travel tips.

The Best Breville Blender For All Your Kitchen Needs Today

breville blender

Four years ago when I was pregnant with my first child, my cravings could only be satisfied by my Breville blender. Wait, what? Yes. I had the severe form of morning sickness known as Hyperemesis Gravidarum throughout my pregnancy. I couldn't eat a solid meal, so I took to blending food and having small portions every few hours. During this time my Breville BBL605XL Hemisphere Control blender became my lifeline. It made it easy to create semi-solid meals that I could keep down. I also made different juices to keep my fluid intake up.

Whether you're creating special foods for specific needs or making margaritas, a blender can be your best friend. But with so many on the market, how do you choose?

Comparison Table

Breville is an Australian brand with a massive presence worldwide. Their blenders are high performance yet affordable alternatives to industrial blenders like Vitamix, Cuisinart, Ninja, and Blendtec. But how do you know a Breville blender will fit your needs? And will it exceed your expectations or should you just settle for the usual bargain options?

The Breville Blender: How We Reviewed

There are four important metrics that Breville has scored highly on since they began producing blenders. These are: construction, size, power, and special features. A blender should be able to combine functionality with aesthetics to provide a complete experience to the user. It's also important to know which special options are worth your money, and which are just there to push up the price.

First of all, a blender is a workhorse kitchen appliance. This means sturdy construction is paramount. All the products we reviewed have sturdy construction and can comfortably take the rigors of blending smoothies, juices, and yogurt as well as tougher foods like nuts. The moving parts like the cup and blades securely attach to the base guaranteeing minimal movement and no leakage.

The products are made from a combination of hardy, reliable and safe materials to ensure they can withstand extended use and constant cleaning. You can expect to see materials like stainless steel and premium grade glass and plastic.

Additionally, the product size and capacity are very important. The products chosen are the ideal sizes in two areas: their dimensions in relation to the kitchen countertop and their cup or pitcher size. They are not so bulky that they take up a lot of room on the counter and the cup or pitcher size is not overwhelming either.

Also, you should consider motor power. The products on our list have a wattage of 750 and above which is powerful enough for excellent blending. When it comes to blenders, it is best to choose one with a powerful motor. This guarantees you a highly efficient machine that is versatile in use. We have focused on powerful blenders in our list forgoing qualities like portability and compactness which don't matter when the product does not deliver on a good amount of power.

Finally, which special features are dealbreakers for you? Each of the products we reviewed scores highly in the most practical and essential features. In this metric our focus was not a huge number of buttons but which available functions provide value for money. We looked at the actual convenience of the functions, whether they are pre-set or need to be manually adjusted and how easy to use they are.

How Much Will You Pay For A Breville Blender?

Breville blenders are mid-range products. This means a price range of between $ to $$$. The closer the performance is to a high-end, option the more expensive your Breville blender will be.

These are the top Breville blenders that perform exceptionally. They are highly sought after and score highly in all of our metrics

The BBL605XL Hemisphere Control is a traditional blender. It has been reviewed against six other blenders from high-end brands including Vitamix, Blendtec, Ninja, Hamilton Beach, Cuisinart, and KitchenAid and it held its own. In some blending categories, it even outperformed these high-end brands.

This blender can handle rigorous tasks like crushing ice and pulsing nuts and delicate ones like whipping up cream. Its presets make it easy to use on various food items. They are very specific, and the control panel doesn't feel cluttered with too many options. Just one button for smoothies, ice crushing and making pulses.

You will also experience the ease of use when handling the moving parts. The pitcher and the blade come as a unit which is easily cleaned using warm soapy water. The pitcher detaches off the base with just a lift, no screwing on or off required. This helps minimize the wear and tear on the parts.

The construction is solid with the pitcher made from engineering-grade borosilicate glass and the blade from stainless steel. The design is minimalist almost basic. Its capacity is 48 to 64 ounces, allowing you to blend 6-8 cups. With a wattage of 750, it does a good job of blending to a smooth consistency allowing you to enjoy a smoothie without having to chew the ingredients. You can purchase it on eBay for between $ and $$$.

  • Easy to use
  • Dishwasher friendly
  • Has few removable parts
  • The pitcher has measurement markings
  • The glass on the pitcher is scratch proof
  • It is quiet

  • The pitcher is considerably smaller compared to other traditional blenders

  • Variable speed dial makes it easy to fine-tune texture while blending

This is an exceptional product and, according to Breville, it features the world's first green smoothie button. The pitcher is made from Tritan plastic, which is BPA (bisphenol A) free and is also shatterproof. Tritan plastic is the most premium grade of plastic used in making blenders. The base is made from die-cast metal and has a brushed aluminum finish. The control panel consists of a few preset buttons: the timer button, a speed knob for 12 manual settings, a power button, and the start button is conveniently placed on the base. There is also an LCD screen.

With a capacity of 68 ounces, you can make around 8 cups of whatever you are blending. The 1500 watts motor can blend anything including a steaming cup of soup in no time. A look at the famous green smoothie button on this blender shows that it works much like the "normal" smoothie setting, only faster and longer. Breville Boss To Go BPB600BAL Kinetix Blade and Bowl System, One size,...
  • Smooth rimmed cups without clips or threads for a nicer drinking experience
  • Overload protection system
  • Wrap around cord storage system

This blender was Breville's first foray into the personal blenders niche. It certainly makes blending on the go easy and practical with the 2 cup options: 16 or 23 ounces.

As with the BBL910XL, the cups are made from Tritan plastic and are also shatterproof and BPA-free. They're sturdy and come with travel lids, so you don't have to worry about spillage.

The biggest selling point for this blender is the use of the Kinetix blade action, which utilizes both curved and serrated blades in the blending process. The results are quite similar to the excellent results of high-end brand Vitamix.

The base is die-cast metal, as well as the drive shaft. It has a wattage of 1000, a true powerhouse when it comes to pulverizing nuts and veggies. As is typical of most personal blenders, to start or stop blending you have to twist or untwist the jar on and off base.

In a category where most offerings have a bland look, the Breville BPB600BAL receives a lot of praise for a sleek, slim design that gives it that statement piece edge. The die-cast metal is largely responsible for this appealing aesthetic. The tumblers have the smooth edge finish making them comfortable to drink from, and they are easy to grip.

The construction allows you to clean it thoroughly because of the recessed blade design which lifts the blades of the base of the pitcher and leaves room for maneuverability. You can wash it safely in the dishwasher. It is available on eBay, Amazon or the Breville website. This model will run you between $ and $$, depending on your retailer.

  • Has excellent to go cups with top-notch travel lids
  • Easy to clean
  • The 1000 watts motor is powerful

  • The cups do not fit in car cup holders
  • It gets overly manual with the twisting and untwisting of the cups on and off the base
  • It is loud

This blender is Amazon's choice for a Breville blender. According to Breville, it combines traditional blending capabilities with some food processing functions. This enables it to not only blend various food items but blend to an excellent consistency.

It comes with a one-year warranty and uses the one-touch technology on all the settings. You have the option of nine task controls so that you can work with any foodstuff you like. The base is heavy duty die-cast metal while the pitcher is Tritan BPA free plastic.

The stainless steel blades are central to the abilities of this blender. Combined with the 1000-watt motor, the blades make achieving a smooth blend very easy.

The pitcher capacity is 50 ounces, which is around four cups. It also utilizes the Kinetix blade action to create extra fine particles during the blending process. The three main settings -- green smoothie, smoothie and ice/pulse -- each have five speed options to help you achieve your favorite blend texture.

The inner measuring lid is worth a mention here because it simplifies the measuring process and saves time on the blending process. This Breville blender is an excellent choice if your kitchen needs are heavy and you are dealing with hardcore food items. You can purchase it on Amazon or the Breville website. You can expect to pay between $ and $$, depending on your seller.

  • Easy to clean using the auto clean option
  • It is quiet during operation
  • Comes with ten recipe cards

  • The pitcher is not scratch proof

Breville Boss To Go BPB600BAL Kinetix Blade and Bowl System, One size,...
  • Smooth rimmed cups without clips or threads for a nicer drinking experience
  • Overload protection system
  • Wrap around cord storage system

This product has a 2000-watt motor, which is extremely impressive considering the price. It does an excellent job blending all manner of foods just like an industrial blender. The base is heavy duty die-cast metal, and the pitcher is BPA free Tritan plastic. Unlike ordinary blenders that have a heavy pitcher, this Breville blender features a very lightweight pitcher. According to Breville, this pitcher lasts ten times longer than the ordinary polycarbonate pitchers.

The company deviated from their usual silver color scheme to offer a more refined brushed stainless steel look. The difference is minor but it is discernible. The preset functions are easy to master and use and sit visibly on the base. There are five speed controls for all your blending needs. The 2000 watts worth of power comes into play when you need fast bursts of speed to pulverize your food.

It is easy to clean both the 68-ounce pitcher and the exterior of the blender. With the built-in measuring cup, it's easier and less time-consuming to measure out ingredients. The lid has the Breville assist lid ring to simplify opening the pitcher after a messy blending session. As far as blenders go this Breville blender can give any high-end alternative a run for its money. You can buy it on eBay or the Breville website for between $ and $$.

  • Has a very powerful motor
  • Easy to clean
  • It is quiet
  • It has a two-year replacement/five-year motor warranty

  • It has a square design which can be a bit awkward when pouring

The Best Breville Blender of 2018: The Search Is Over

Choosing an everyday appliance like a blender takes a lot of thought. With the four blenders above you have the best a Breville blender can offer. Understandably, settling for one may not be easy, but one must come out on top.

Having used the Breville BBL650XL during my pregnancy, I have a soft spot for it. It works extremely well and you never feel like it will give way under all the rigorous tasks you subject it to. However, the BPB600BAL has to be my favorite at this point in time. It's a small personal blender with close capabilities to a traditional blender. It cleans easily and performs tasks efficiently. And while each of the blenders brings something essential to the table, this one brings better aesthetics, functionality, and power.

The unique construction and design of a Breville blender mean that you can always rely on it in the kitchen. The designers at Breville are masters at creating long-lasting kitchen appliances, and they have not disappointed with their blenders.

Blendtec Total blender: Everything You Need to Know About

Blendtec Total Classic Original Blender with FourSide Jar Image 1
Blendtec Total Classic Original Blender with FourSide Jar Image 1

Image from Amazon

Are you tired of basic consumer blenders that barely do what they’re supposed to? Then a Blendtec Total blender may be what you need. If you never used a high-end blender, you may not understand the hype. It’s not just about faster results. You’ll also find an improvement in the creaminess and texture of your smoothies and other blended foods. And it helps to have shortcuts for common tasks so you can just push a button and let the blender do everything else.

I used to get by with a mediocre blender, but I was never satisfied with the quality of my smoothies, soups, and peanut butter. After trying a high-end blender, I never looked back.

A Closer Look at the Blendtec Total Blender

This is one of those fancy blenders you can count on to do almost anything. While every blender claims to be good for smoothies, sauces, and soups, that can mean many different things. Sure, they can all chop up and puree soft fruits. But what if your idea of a good smoothie or sauce means turning hard nuts and frozen vegetables into a smooth liquid? Lower-end blender can’t achieve a consistent, creamy result without chunks. That’s why people invest in a Blendtec Total Blender.

Blendtec Total Classic Original Blender with FourSide Jar Image 3

Image from Amazon

There’s more to it than sheer power. The Blendtec Total blender makes the whole process easy. You get fine-tuned presets for smoothies and other things so you can just push a single button and let the blender handle the rest. So, if you’ve ever wished your blender was more powerful and versatile, getting a Blendtec Total blender is an excellent idea.

It’s the kind of blender that can pulverize ice and rice, and make all sorts of nut butter, purees, and flours. If you like green smoothies, a Blendtec Total blender is your friend. Since most greens are, in essence, mostly indigestible plant matter, it’s essential that your blender can really break down those cell walls. Few blenders do it well, but this one does. And if you’re unsure what to do with all that versatile power, you can check the included 213-page recipe book.

You get six preset programs with corresponding buttons. Each one sets the blending power and cycle time, so you can leave the blender alone until it finishes. No need to worry about over-processing with simple tasks. So you get consistent results every time. These are the presets:

  • Ice cream/frozen yogurt
  • Soup/syrup/fondue
  • Sauce/Batter
  • Smoothie
  • Ice crush/milkshake
  • Whole juice

You can also blend manually. Set the speed with the plus and minus buttons, and run it with the blend/pulse button. There are 10 different speed settings. An LCD below the buttons shows your settings. While running, it shows how long you’ve blended, or how much remains of a preset cycle. It also keeps track of how many times you’ve blended.

Unlike most blenders, the Blendtec Total blender has no plastic parts involved in spinning the blades. The drive socket is unbreakable, and it won’t slip. Combined with its powerful 3-horsepower, 1,560-watt motor, this makes it a very dependable blender. The blade spins at a speed of up to 29,000 RPM and makes short work of anything feed it.

The 64-ounce blender jar consists of BPA-free plastic. So it’s light and durable and doesn’t release anything terrible into your food. The shape helps to ensure that anything in your blender comes back to the blades for a smooth, consistent result. Measurements along the sides help you get your ratios perfect. Cleaning it is easy, just put some soap and hot water in it and push the pulse button.

A Blendtec Total blender measures seven by eight by 15.5 inches. So it won’t take up much space. You can get in white or black.

The blender comes with an 8-year comprehensive warranty. There’s also a lifetime warranty for the blade.

Blendtec Total Classic Original Blender with FourSide Jar Image 2

There’s not much to say when it comes to power, except that it’s really impressive. If you like to make your own almond butter, slushies, and vegetable purees, a Blendtec Total blender is ideal. You can even mix a dough in it, without worrying about the blades getting stuck, or the blender overheating and killing the yeast. And while all this power lets it do things many other blenders can’t, it also improves the result of things that don’t necessarily require much power. Let’s say you’re making a margarita or a fancy coffee drink; you’ll get faster and often better results.

The steep, square design of the jar helps ensure that everything goes down to the blades until it’s finished blending. If for some reason, the going gets too tough for the motor, it will shut down before any damage can occur. You’ll also get an overload message on the display, so you know what happened and don’t confuse it for a finished cycle.

Even if your old blender doesn’t give you the creamy results you want, you can be sure that the Blendtec Total blender will. And it not only crushes ice without water, but it can also turn it into snow. It may be best to not just think of the Blendtec Total blender as a blender, but rather as a versatile countertop appliance. You can use it for any mixing task you can think of, including kneading dough. And it gives you fine enough results to turn fruits into a smooth sherbet.

Cleaning the blender is effortless. You don’t need to pick it apart and wash by hand and risk cutting yourself. It’s a fixed-blade design, so there’s no need for assembly. Since the base is smooth with no loose parts, wiping it off takes no time.

User Rating

Since preferences vary, and it’s better to listen to more than one person, let’s look at what other users think. Buyers on Amazon give it a 4.1-star average. They say praise its speed and consistent results, and they like the container design. A common complaint is that it’s really loud, but this is the case with all high-power blenders.

This Blendtec Total blender costs between $250 and $350. There are also special editions that cost more. You can find a Blendtec Total blender in various kitchen supply stores and webshops, such as online at Amazon.

How the Blendtec Total Blender Compares to Competition

Just like it’s good to get information from multiple people, it’s good to consider multiple products. We’ll now compare the Blendtec Total Blender to the Vitamix 5300, the Ninja Professional 1200 BL688, and the KitchenAid KSB1570SL.

It’s one of the best-selling blenders from one of the most popular brands. You may also know it as the Costco Vitamix. It’s a Vitamix C-Series blender with plenty of power.

With peak power of 2.2 horsepowers, it’s not far behind the Blendtec Total Blender. And it’s far above average. There are no preset blending programs, but you can set the speed and pulse things as you please. There’s no display, only a speed knob and two switches for start/stop and pulse. One advantage is that you can adjust the speed while blending.

It uses a low-profile 64-ounce jar like most new Vitamix blenders. The shape makes it easier to fit it under cupboards and shelves. Since it’s wide, it’s also easier to fit things into it. A signature tamper makes it easy to ensure that everything goes down into the blades. You also get a recipe book.

Not much can go wrong with such a simple design. Vitamix backs this up with a 7-year warranty that covers parts, labor, and shipping.

Compared to other Vitamix C-series blenders, it’s really powerful. It’s more like the Next Generation series. In essence, they put a bigger motor inside a C-series casing. Like the Blendtec Total Blender, it’s effective but noisy.

While it doesn’t match the sheer power of the Blendtec Total Blender, you wouldn’t notice a significant difference in results in a side-by-side comparison. The Blendtec Total blender is faster, but this is mostly because you can just push a button and get perfect results. With the Vitamix 5300, you must dial in the right speed and blend or pulse manually while keeping an eye on things. It’s not the kind of blender you can leave alone and do other things and expect to come back to a perfect result. The Blendtec Total blender is, though.

In general, it can do everything that the Blendtec Total blender can do. However, it may be a bit slower.

Like the Blendtec Total blender, it’s a self-cleaning blender. Just fill it with warm water and soap and turn it on.

Buyers like the simplicity and fine results. The main complaint is that it’s not ideal for really small quantities, because it may take more to get it to blend properly. This lands it at a 4.4-star rating.

Ninja Blender 1200 Watts of professional performance With Auto-iQ...
  • 1200 watts of professional performance strength
  • Auto-iq technology features timed, intelligent blending programs that do the work for you, no guesswork required
  • Xl 72 oz. (64 oz. Max Liquid capacity) total crushing blender pitcher pulverizes ice to snow in seconds for creamy...

Ninja started as an attempt to rival the NutriBullet for compact blender market dominance. However, their line-up soon expanded and diversified. The Ninja 1200 is more like a Vitamix or a Blendtec Total Blender. As the name implies, it features a 1,200-watt motor. It may not have all the power and versatility of the Blendtec Total blender, but it’s an approximation with a lower price tag. While it is more budget-oriented, it does come with a 7-year warranty.

The first notable feature is something Ninja calls Auto-IQ technology. This is a selection of clever presets for perfect blending. You get three of them, so it’s not on the same level as the Blendtec Total Blender. The presets still let you blend with a single push and do other things while it’s working. The three presets are Smoothie, Frozen drink, and Puree. There are also three buttons for different speeds, plus a pulse button and power button.

While the pitcher is technically bigger, it still holds the same amount as the Blendtec Total Blender. What stands out about the Ninja is that there are three sets of blades at different heights. The advantage of this is that not only the stuff at the bottom blends. The whole design is BPA-free, and all relevant parts are dishwasher-safe. Now, this feature is only useful if you load the container close to full of relatively hard-to-blend stuff.

While it’s not the most powerful blender on the market, it can still handle ice and frozen things without trouble. It can turn ice into snow in mere seconds. So it’s a trusty smoothie machine.

It does a great job overall for the price range. The blades are very sharp, which means it blends differently than the Blendtec Total Blender. They may eventually get dull, but they should be easy to sharpen.

What I like about the multi-layered blades is that you can easily chop vegetables and fruits without making mush. This isn’t a common use for a blender, but it’s convenient. Speaking of convenience, the presets are as convenient as those of the Blendtec Total Blender. Each one blends for a set time, so you can leave the blender alone and get consistent results. There’s no guesswork.

Where you’ll notice that it’s a cheaper product is in the stability and robustness. It’s more “plasticky” than a high-end blender. But it’s not bad, although it’s less versatile than the Blendtec Total Blender.

Users like the power and ease of use. Common complaints are that it’s too tall to fit under some cupboards and that some things don’t get smooth with a single cycle. They give it a 4.2-star average.

KitchenAid’s 5-speed Diamond blender may look old-fashioned at first glance, but it’s a modern and very capable blender. While it may not be on the same level as a Blendtec Total blender, it’s strong and versatile nonetheless. And it comes at a reasonable price.

One of the first questions for a blender like this is whether it can crush ice and frozen fruit. The answer is yes. There’s even a dedicated button for that, right next to the pulse button. Then there’s a power button and five speed-control buttons. You can set the pulse speed to your liking. There’s no display or timer or any other bells and whistles.

The container consists of BPA-free plastic and holds 56 ounces of liquid. It’s a classic, round pitcher design, rather than the wide square shape that’s popular now. When it comes to aesthetics, it has a pleasant retro look. And since it’s KitchenAid, you can get it in 15 different colors.

The control panel is as straight-forward as it could be. Choose your speed and start blending. The base is easy to clean since the buttons are flat and covered. The blades don’t come off the pitcher, so there aren’t many parts to clean or reassemble. You can wash it with the same method as the others, or you can use your dishwasher.

Don’t expect it to turn ice into snow; it’s not that powerful. And if you like to make green smoothies, you may have to settle for a somewhat grainy texture, as the leaves are hard to puree. You can still make excellent peanut butter, pesto, and hummus though. It can also whip cream.

You don’t have to worry about unprocessed food sticking under the blades or around the sides where the blades are. However, sticky mixes will require you to scrape the pitcher’s walls.

Buyers on Amazon report that they like the speed settings and general ease of use. One somewhat common complaint is that the pitcher may leak a bit. They give it 4.2 stars.

Pros and Cons

With all that information out of the way, it’s time to summarize things. These are the strengths and drawbacks of the Blendtec Total Blender.

  • Very powerful
  • Built to last
  • Versatile
  • Generous presets
  • Easily read display

  • No tamper
  • Quite expensive

A Blendtec Total blender can handle almost anything you throw in it. If you want a versatile high-end blender that does more than great smoothies, it’s an ideal choice.

The main downside of a blender like this is the price. If you don’t need all that power, you may be better off with the Ninja or KitchenAid. Other than that, it’s an excellent blender.

Is the Blendtec Total Blender Worth It?

The Blendtec Total blender is one of the best blenders on the market. In addition to sheer power, you get the convenience of intelligent presets that yield consistent results. Whatever you want to blend, grind, or puree, it can do it. And there’s nothing flimsy on it so that you can count on it to last.
